Answer the following questions with one paragraph each (4-6 sentences). Write the answers on another sheet of paper with only the answer. Do not copy the questions over. Just number the paragraphs according to the question. Write your answer in APA format, but I don’t need a cover page, only a reference page for any references that you include.
- As businesses continue to expand internationally, a myriad of ethical dilemmas arises for managers and owners, including, but not limited to: The country has no environmental protection standards, thus can I ethically dump my manufacturing by-products into the rivers and pollute the air?
Address what you would do as a manager. Do you play by the rules of where you are working or is there a universal set of ethical principles that should apply that disregards the exact geographic location?
- Find a company that utilizes a diversification strategy, either related or unrelated. Describe their diversification strategy and what benefits and risks they seemingly get from it. You can NOT use these companies: InBev’, Pfizer, AT&T, Boston Scientific, Facebook, Duke Energy or Softbank. Choose another one of your choice.
- Assuming that you were the CEO and starting a new business enterprise, which business level strategy would you choose and why? Cite examples from your own business experiences, including as a customer, that support your position.
- In a substantive paragraph, reflect and share the challenges you feel you would face when it comes to hiring talent (employees) to an organization.
- If you were a manager of a domestic enterprise, which type of organizational structure/system would employ and why? Would it be the simple structure– increases its sales revenue and volume of outputs over time; functional structure– concentrate efforts on both increasing efficiency and enhancing its operations and products; or divisional structure– as business expands in terms of sales revenues and domestic growth opportunities become somewhat limited, a firm may seek opportunities in international markets.
- Power is an interesting word with a vast array of connotations. Do you see it as a positive or a negative? Explain. Also, when considering the power bases that a leader can operate off of, which is most beneficial to utilize in terms of the long term success of the organization? Explain
- Read this quote: “IQ gets you hired, EQ (emotional quotient) gets you promoted.” Explain substantively why this quote is a true statement or not.
- The idea of now using more “outside” directors on their boards is becoming popular. For Pick a publicly traded company and briefly research their board of directors. In a substantive paragraph, describe the composition of their board in terms of inside/outside directors, as well as the level of diversity amongst their board members in terms of both biological/demographic features and business backgrounds. Based on what you’ve read, do you believe their board is in good shape or do you see some ways they could improve? Explain.
