For this assignment, I have chosen simple, online self-assessments to complete that are relevant to a career in counselling. They are designed to inform you about your personality, your career aptitude, and your stress levels. You will also self-assess any leanings toward social anxiety.
The Big Five (BFI) Inventory: This test breaks your personality into 5 traits. Take the test using the link provided. The results will show where your personality lands on each of the 5 personality traits and does so using percentile scores. For example, one trait is called “agreeableness” and looks at your tendency to agree with directives or opinions of others. If you score, for example, in the 91st percentile it means you tend to have a very agreeable personality. A score for example, in the 13th percentile means you are low in agreeableness (a tendency to disagree/question/refuse).
For the assignment, print or scan your personal BFI results. Answer this one question: How consistent are the results with your personal opinion about your personality? Please address each of the five personality traits.
Career Aptitude Test: This test is designed to get you thinking about your career likes and dislikes, or “aptitude”. Using the link provided, it will take five to ten minutes to complete the test. You will see fifteen sets of four pictures that show specific work activities. For each slide, you must choose only one work activity that appeals to you the most and one that appeals to you the least. Some may not apply at all but I still want you to chose the most and least preferred.
This test breaks your personality into six categories (e.g. realistic, social, artistic, etc.)
You will be given a code such as SIACRE (which is mine). In my case, it means I scored as (in this order) Social, Investigative, Artistic, Conventional, Realistic and Enterprising.
For the assignment, record your personal code and indicate what the words stand for.
The designers of the test will go on to list a series of jobs that you might be suitable for. For the assignment, list the top six careers suggested. Provide the % score indicated as well.
