Article Analysis Questions and Instructions
Please read the rubric included with each article and follow it carefully so you will receive full credit for your analysis. This assignment was designed to allow BIO 105 to fulfill certain University requirements and so must be graded strictly. Be sure that you:
- Employ proper English spelling and grammar, using sentences in paragraphs
- Provide at least one paragraph of 4 or more sentences per question, except for question 2 which requires 3 paragraphs. Be sure you address each part of the For each answer EXPLAIN your thoughts.
- separate out answers by question number
- provide and explain a quote for question 1, otherwise do not use quotes in your answers
- provide at least one reference, in proper format, that you used to answer question 3

1. What was the author’s purpose (or purposes) in writing this article? For example, it could be to inform, to entertain, to convince, to inspire, to cause action, etc. Use a quote of 1-several sentences in length from the article and explain how it supports your understanding of the author’s purpose.
2. Provide a summary of the article, at least 3 solid paragraphs in length, including the author’s main ideas and conclusions.
- What is the background of the author? Are they advocating for a particular point of view? If so, what and why? Is the information provided reliable or biased and how do you know? To answer this question fully you need to look up the background of the author and properly cite your information, which requires more than just a URL. Use APA citation formats as explained here https://library.flcc.edu/APA_FLCC.pdf . Provide a reference at the bottom of your analysis.
- What type of information (facts, experiences, data, statistics) does the author provide in support of their conclusions? Give a few specific examples of useful information that was presented. Should more information have been given? If so, what kind and why?5. How does this article relate to and use information from BIO 105? Give several examples.
6. Do you think that this article presented ideas or information important for you to understand? Why or why not? How could you and/or others act on these ideas and information to improve your life, our country, society, or the world as a whole?
