Essay. You must respond to the question below in essay form. Your response should be detailed and use specific material from all parts of our class to support your answer. I especially want you to use material from our primary sources. A typical response is usually at least 4-5 full pages, double-spaced (about 1500 words and a normal times new roman 12-point font with regular margins), but you may have a longer answer. A paper shorter than 3 full pages needs to be very, very good to get a passing grade.

1. From the Troubles of the 1300s to the emergence of Nation-States and World exploration through the early 1600s, Western Europe encountered many internal (religious, political, disease, economics, wars amongst themselves) and external (conflicts with outsiders) problems. What were they and how and why did they make some parts of Europe stronger and some more divided and weaker? How did the stronger nations emerge from this period to not only dominate Europe affairs but become the strongest nations in the world by the early 1600s? Again, be specific and complete with examples. I expect material from chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 when answering this prompt.
