To engage with an issue in education in which you are personally interested.
Procedure:
Student will pick a topic either off the syllabus or of personal interest in education (with
instructor approval).
The student will write a short proposal explaining interest in the topic that shows some
understanding of the topic and 2 potential sources that might be used. This is due on
October 3, 2018 by the beginning of class.
After receiving feedback from the instructor on the proposal, the student will research the
topic, finding additional sources and creating a paper that 1) explain the basic issue, 2)
offers multiple perspectives on the issue, and 3) elaborates on some policy
recommendations that the author suggests.
The student will submit a final draft of a 6-8 page paper in D2L by 5 pm on November
30.
The student will present their work during the final exam period on Monday, December
10 between 7:45 and 9:45 as specified by the instructor.
A good paper will…
1. Clearly and completely address all elements of the rubric
2. Meet BUT NOT EXCEED the length requirement.
3. Show an understanding of the chosen issue as well as multiple perspectives on it.
4. Use APA formatting.
The paper and final presentation will be worth 30% of the final course grade. (There will be an
additional rubric for the final presentation which will count for 5% of this category.)
