Theoretical Treatments of Nanosystems
Literature Review: this is a written report of no more than 10 pages in length that contains a review of a topic of your choice related to published research in material modelling. The review should be based on between 3 to 5 papers in which methods covered in the course were used: DFT, HF, force field, MD, MC, and/or KMC. Try to choose a topic you would like to concentrate upon, and then search for interesting papers where this method (or methods) has (have) been used. It is essential that you do not simply copy the papers, you have to narrate their content in your own words. Read the papers carefully; the report must contain a clear description of the topic of the research, its importance; then you should clearly state what new has been done in this particular work(s); then you have to provide a clear explanation of the methods used in this work and then present the results. Extra marks will be given if the described papers are compared with each other and advantages and disadvantages of different approaches are stated. A number of papers that may serve you as an inspiration (hopefully!) are provided in Weeks 5 to 8, but you are completely free to choose whatever papers you like! It might be a good idea to find a recent review (the last 10 years) that would provide you with a great choice of literature.
