Drama Analysis
PEER REVIEWS

DIRECTIONS:
You will need to communicate with the members of your group to coordinate Peer Reviews.
Create a thread in your group to discuss this process. Each person should review two other
group members, so you will need to discuss with one another who is reviewing whom so that
each person gets two reviews, and no one is left without having their paper reviewed by two
other group members. Here’s a standard model of how you might arrange peer assignments:
Member A reviews B & C
Member B reviews C & D
Member C reviews D & A
Member D reviews A & B

Begin by sharing your rough draft to your group’s Drama Analysis section of the Discussion
Board within your assigned Group (See the My Group link below). Your file should either be in
Word or PDF format. Other file types will not be accepted. Only those who have submitted
their draft to their group by the deadline should expect a Peer Review. If you have a group
member that submits their paper late, you do not have to review their paper.
HERE ARE SOME GUIDELINES FOR PRODUCTIVE FEEDBACK
A. We are reviewing Rough Drafts, so we recognize that these are unfinished and
unpolished drafts of our papers. These papers should all evolve much further from their
current state. This means that no one has a perfect paper at this point. We all have
room for further development, clarification, and improvement.
B. We are only helpful if we are being honest with one another. It does no one any good if
you just say a peer’s paper is great and that you love it. That is not a sufficient peer
review, and it does not help your peer identify any areas of potential improvement. So
let’s commit to being honest and providing constructive feedback.
C. While we are being honest, we also want to be kind. This means we never talk down to
the writer or criticize them in any demeaning fashion. You should never mock a person’s
writing but instead should offer encouraging, constructive feedback.

Analysis
HOW TO WRITE THE REVIEW:

I will be using the objectives defined on the Drama Analysis rubric, connected to the essay
assignment, when I grade your final drafts, so you should be using these same objectives to
review your peers’ essays. Using the specifics on the rubric as your guide, you should answer
the following questions. Number your answers 1-8 in a post as a reply to your peer’s shared
draft.
Essay 1 Writing Objectives:
1. Introduction: Does the essay contain a clear, organized introduction that hooks the
audience’s attention, establishes background information, and properly sets up the topic
and focus of the entire essay? Explain why or why not.
2. Thesis: Does the thesis make an argumentative claim that’s a narrow, focused,
direct response to the writing prompt and controls the focus of the entire essay? Explain
why or why not.
3. Organization: Does the essay implement an organizational pattern that provides
separation of ideas into clearly defined body paragraphs? Does each body paragraph have
a specific point/focus that’s directly connected to justifying the thesis? Explain why or
why not.
4. Primary Development and Analysis: Is the essay fully developed with adequate
evidence from the primary text (play) and thorough analysis for supporting the thesis? Is
this evidence clearly defined and relevant to the points being made? Is the evidence
balanced with analysis that explains the evidence’s relevance and connection to the thesis?
Explain why or why not.
5. Secondary Development: Does the essay use proper secondary research to
provide background information and/or support for the argument? Is the research properly
identified and analyzed to provide a discussion that is consistent and unified with the
thesis and primary development & analysis? Explain why or why not.
6. Conclusion: Does the essay contain a defined conclusion that avoids summary
and repetition but instead offers the reader a more purposeful closure to the discussion
through application or implication of the argument?
7. Style: Does the essay implement an appropriate writing style that uses proper
formatting, tone, vocabulary, and sentence dynamics? Is the essay free of errors in
grammar, punctuation, word choice, and formatting? What are some of the kinds of
major errors or stylistic concerns you see?
8. Documentation: Does the essay employ proper use of MLA documentation both
within the body of the essay as well as on a Work(s) Cited? What kinds of documentation
issues need addressing?
