The Excel file ‘HousePrices’ on Moodle contains information on 321 houses that are sold recently.
Below are descriptions of variables in the data:

Prepare a report that addresses the following:
1. Use numerical descriptive measures to summarize the characteristics of the houses in the
data (i.e., age, number of rooms, number of bathrooms, selling price).

2. Use graphical representation to summarise the characteristics of the houses in the data.
[20 marks]
3. Define a house as “new” if it has less than 50 years of age, and “old” if it has 50 or more years
of age. When you consider the population of houses that this data is selected from, is there
evidence that the average number of rooms is statistically different from each other in the “new”
and “old” houses?

4. Is there statistical evidence that the average price of houses with one bathroom is different
than the average price of houses with more than one bathroom?

5. Estimate a regression model with house selling price as the dependent variable and the age
of the house, number of rooms, and number of bathrooms as explanatory variables. Comment on
the impact of each of these explanatory variables on house prices.

following criteria:
1. Your work must be well presented, using Microsoft Word (please use Insert: Equation to add
equations and variables) and Microsoft Excel where appropriate.
2. Marks will be deducted if the work is not well organized or untidy.
3. You must provide FULL explanations and details to obtain full marks.
This assignment is designed to assess learning outcomes:
1. Construct and interpret descriptive statistics by making appropriate use of software packages
such as Microsoft Excel.
2. Explain the basic concepts ofstatistical inference and be able to construct confidence intervals
and correctly perform hypotheses tests using data.
3. Demonstrate basic understanding of linear regression, and be able to perform regression
analysis to estimate economic parameters using real-world data.

Word Count
The word count is 1000 words
There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark (after internal moderation) for work
exceeding the word limit by 10% or more.
The word limit includes quotations and citations, but excludes the references list.
How to submit your assessment
The assessment must be submitted by 18:00 on 04/07/22. No paper copies are required. You can
access the submission link through the module web.
• Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please
take care to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.
• Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files
will receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accepts Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless
otherwise advised by the module leader.
• All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below)
will be given a mark of zero.
• The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen
which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be
beyond your control and not easy to predict. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to
your deadline for up to two weeks, or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes
you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment
Boards). You must apply before the deadline.

not acceptable to copy from another source without acknowledging that it is someone else’s writing

Self-plagiarism is unacceptable because you cannot gain credit for the same work twice.
The University VLE includes a plagiarism detection system and assessors are experienced enough to
recognise plagiarism when it occurs. Copying anotherstudent’s work, using previous work of your own
or copying large sections from a book or the internet are examples of plagiarism and carry serious
consequences. If you are a business student and joined Coventry University in September 2020 or
later please use APA 7th edition referencing, if you joined prior to this date you may use APA or the
existing Harvard Reference Style (Coventry version) that you are familiar with. Law students should

Return of Marked Work
You can expect to have marked work returned to you by 25/07/22. If for any reason there is a delay
you will be kept informed. Marks and feedback will be provided online. As always, marks will have
been internally moderated only, and will therefore be provisional; your mark will be formally agreed
later in the year once the external examiner has completed his / her review.
