Statement of Intent Concordia University Irvine
Ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field. I majored in
psychology to better understand myself and others. Thanks to my psychology education and
certain situations in my life, I began to better understand what I wanted to do. My family in
recent years has had to go to hospitals and doctor’s clinics often due to declining health. I
admired how the administratives helped run the healthcare facilities, helping both the doctors and
the patients focus only on treatment. I noticed how important it is to have an efficient healthcare
leader that gets the job done right and leads to a smooth treatment process. I care about patient
experience and want everyone to receive the highest quality care. My passion for ethics as well
as the recent pandemic led me to pursue a career in healthcare administration. I hope to make an
impact in the healthcare field by being part of the administrative aspect and influencing the
future healthcare system. My end goal is to support my community and become a leader that will
better the healthcare system.
I intend to use my psychology education, past work experience, and my diverse
perspective to help contribute to the healthcare system. As a psychology student, I gained an
understanding of human behavior and peoples’ motivations. I have gained interpersonal skills,
communication skills, and a strong work ethic, as well as research experience regarding older
women’s experience with pain. In addition, I have taken classes such as Business Law and
Business Ethics, which have increased my understanding of how to prevent potential legal
issues. From my experience as a library and computer lab assistant, I learned organization skills
and the importance of technology for future paperwork and bookkeeping. As an immigrant from
Iran and a first-generation college student, my background gives me perspectives and skills on
how to combat the challenges faced by disadvantaged communities when navigating the
healthcare system. Some of those positions give me a chance to observe how management
interacts with everyone, giving me the experiences that I need to bring new ideas to Concordia
University Irvine. At Concordia University Irvine, I will learn to better understand how
healthcare is being operated, and make my contributions to the healthcare system as well as the
community.
