SMART Goal Reflection Journal 1 Instructions

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on your goal progress, analyze data and apply key psychology concepts to your SMART Goal. You will reflect on your experiences, data, and results in detail, comparing your actual results to your SMART Goal. You will write in detail to explain supports and obstacles that influenced your progress towards your goal. You will define and apply key concepts to your SMART Goal.

Skills: You will practice and develop a variety of skills as you write this essay.
• You will analyze SMART Goal data (thoughts, feelings, behaviors) to uncover patterns.
• You will update strategies for making progress towards your goals based on data.
• You will think critically, applying psychological theories and concepts to analyze your own behavior.
• You will develop awareness and intention around your daily habits.
• You will write about personal experiences in essay format using APA or MLA-style citations.
Part 1: Task: Write Reflection Journal One Essay
□ Summarize Your Goal: State your SMART Goal. Describe your experiences and results in detail.
□ State your SMART Goal including your specific strategies.
□ Describe any adjustments, if necessary, you made to your goal and/or strategies.
□ Compare your actual results to the initial SMART Goal plan you developed in your topic outline.
□ Explain at least two supports that are influencing your progress towards your SMART Goal.
□ Explain at least two obstacles that are influencing your progress towards your SMART Goal.
□ Describe at least one realistic update to a strategy to enhance your ability to achieve your goal.

□ Define and Apply Key Terms to Your Goal: Define and explain the relationship of the following four concepts to your SMART Goal experience. The course textbook is the only acceptable source for definitions. Use in-text citations for the definitions in either APA or MLA style. Describe a specific and concrete example of each concept. Then, describe how each concept applies to your SMART Goal.

When working towards goals, one major concept to consider is reinforcement, which the textbook Psychology in Your Life defines as: “The additional or removal of a stimulus to increase the probability that a behavior will be repeated” (Grison and Gazzaniga, 2017, p. 214). Negative reinforcement is basically rewarding a behavior by removing something bad, or in my case, painful. Within my SMART Goal, I experienced negative reinforcement with stiffness and soreness in my shoulder. The more I do physical therapy, the less my shoulder feels stiff and sore. This motivates me to get started when I don’t feel like doing my physical therapy exercises.
