Seven chapters (Chapter 8 -14) from the textbook Experience Spanish will be covered
during the five-week summer. Keep in mind that this course is NOT designed to be selfspaced. Course materials and learning activities are organized and presented in much the
same way as those of face-to-face class. Learning a language on an online setting requires
as much work as learning in a traditional face-to-face classroom, along with a great
amount of discipline. Thus, students are expected to spend approximately 4-5 hours each
day to prepare, learn and practice course materials, and complete assigned homework.2
You should take a few minutes every day to examine learning materials posted in weekly
modules, and learn about assigned activities. For grammar presentations you will need to
watch selected Spanish videos posted in Canvas. It is important that you read grammar
explanations of your textbook before watching the videos. You will use the e-book
and Connect site to practice the vocabulary, the grammar and other skills. In addition
to Connect homework assignments, you will create a personal blog to practice writing
and use Flipgrid to practice the pronunciation and speaking skills. Learning about the
target culture is essential to learning a foreign language. Thus, you will have the
opportunity to create a cultural project using topics provided by the instructor. Finally,
there will be a final exam to evaluate your overall learning performance. For more

GRADING CRITERIA
• Connect assignments (30%)
o You are required to complete online activities in Connect on a daily
basis.
• Blog assignments (15%)
o You are required to keep a personal blog to practice your writing skills.

• Flipgrid assignments (15%)
o You are required to create brief video recordings to practice your
pronunciation and speaking skills. More information can be found in
Canvas.
• Cultural project (15%)
o You are required to create an individual cultural project and record an oral
presentation to share with the class. More information can be found in
Canvas.
• Final exam (25%)
o The final exam is cumulative. You will take the final on the last of class,
July 24th, 2020. Be sure to be available to take the exam. More
information will be posted in Canvas.
Your final grade in SPAN 402 is based on the following grade scale:

90-93 88-90 83-87 80-82 78-80 73-77 70-72 68-70 63-67 60-62
A grade below a 60 is considered an F, and you will not receive credit for the course.
Note: Successful completion of SPAN 401 is a pre-requisite for SPAN 402. If you are
interested in continue to study Spanish after taking SPAN 402, you must earn a C or
better in SPAN 402 to continue on to SPAN 503 – Intermediate Spanish I.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTE FOR UNH
SPAN 401 and 402, taken together, satisfy UNH’s B.A. degree foreign language
requirement. This requirement cannot be fulfilled by courses taken pass/fail. Students
from different universities should check their own institution’s policies regarding credit
