Short Story
Guidelines for the Assignment:
● Your short story must be original. You cannot copy or follow other short stories that you have read. You must come up with your own characters, setting and plot.
● The topic of your story is completely up to you – however, it must incorporate every element we discuss in class.
● Your short story may be based on actual events in history, whether distant or recent or, completely fictional.
● Since this assignment is different from the academic formal writing you have done in the past, you have more freedom when it comes to language usage. You may write using first-person pronouns, second-person pronouns, and slang. However, you should use proper spelling and grammar.
● Have someone proofread your rough draft! You will be given work periods to work on your story – reach out to a classmate or friend! A second set of eyes is always beneficial to editing your work!
● The length of your work should be 4-5 pages double spaced.
This is my story so far:
The clock struck 9 in the morning and here we are in the auditorium on the first day of school; it all begins at Durham College. Our principal Mr.Arjun walks on stage to do his welcome speech for the newcomers. He seems very nice at the start but then his evilness peaks out with all the rules and regulations such as girls and boys have to sit separately, they can’t talk to each other, no relationships, everyone has to graduate with a degree and many more. This is when the entire auditorium became silent. Here I am, thinking about how to find my secret talent and become a big celebrity.
