My name is Douglas Castillo I currently work as a Paraprofessional for the Department of education NYC at DreamYard High School in the Bronx. Working as a paraprofessional I started off with grade-schoolers. I also coached 5th-grade soccer where I was able to help develop their playing skills also while teaching them sportsmanship and the art of team! At the high now I basically cover classes when teachers are out, I talk to the students about the importance of finishing school and finding their likes to better help them follow their passion. I also help facilitate live zoom classes like life-ready classes. I also participate in the ” Sit team ” meeting where we target students who are below average and come up with different ways to help them bring those grades up. I also stay in touch with parents to help understand the underlying issues towards why they’re failing their classes. Most kids in our school suffer from social anxieties and have IEP’s. I also work for St.Joseph’s Medical as a Case Worker or Outpatient worker under the supervision of Gustavo Araujo who operational manager of the site. I also took part in working at Merakey in NJ for a few months under the Clinician ( NASHLEY RODRIGUEZ ) her job description would be Provides child-centered, family-focused, individual and family, face-to-face psychotherapy, as agreed upon by therapist and family to address issues related to the identified child with family issues in the context of how it relates to the child’s identified needs. my part in all this was to understand the issues that disrupt children and older adults and what steps they need to take to help them with their personal problems. The reason I want to become a school counselor is that I myself grew with hardships, outside factors that i could relate with students and adults, going up poor not having a job not having my parents come to school plays nor attend the parent-teacher conference due to working two jobs, having my father away from my life for years also contribute to my struggle as a young teenager. I understand most of these kids are going through the same struggle I went through.
