Using examples from the September 30 course readings and from the film In and Out of Africa – (class on September 30), this response paper enables students to analyze and illustrate the anthropological debates that continue regarding the concepts of authenticity, tradition, pre-modern and modern with regard to arts, crafts, and expressive and visual culture.

Using specific references to the theories and examples in ONE of the course readings on this topic (September 30) and to the film In and Out of Aftica answer BOTH of the following questions in your essay/response paper.

Briefly explain what is meant by the dichotomy between pre-modern and modern arts and identify other terms that have developed to categorize how we understand non-Western visual culture or arts. How, by whom, and when did these distinctions arise in Euro-American social science scholarship?
Discuss some of the ways that different people in the arts field those involved in making, selling, buying, collecting, or displaying non-Western objects think about the value and meaning of these objects.
You can also discuss, how different people involved in the arts have tried to reposition or recontextualize the meaning of these objects to suit their belief or advantage. These art players may include: art historians, museum curators, anthropologists, collectors, art dealers.

NOTE: The information to answer these questions is contained in the readings and in the film.

Format:

Length: 1.5 2 pages (approximately 500-600 words)

Style: Typed, double-spaced, font 12 pt., black ink, stapled left corner, typing on one-side of the page only.

Title Page: Include a Title Page with your name, student number, course name and code, date and number of pages.

Hi , this is a response paper assigment in my social science class lecture professor show the film on lecture and i have to read the reading combine the reading and film to answer the question on above on assignment instruction above . and the course reading name is ( Art ,Authenticity, and the baggage of Cultural Encounter) you can find pdf on the internet to read and the film name is – ( In and Out of Africa) at youtube . the professor show that film in lecture is take one hours long . i can not find the whole film on youtube .he put cd at school so nobody can find the film , but i think you can find the short version it is 7 min and however is about africa people make graphic product and sell them to america something like that or you better can find whats the movie about and combine the reading you have to answer the 2 questions i already give to you at assigned sheet above . to write a assignment paper . you better write easily to understand because i am a chinese student make all simple structure and grammar . the assignment worse 10% Thus , so please take to read all of my instruction carefully and write 700-750 words . thx .
