You have been hired by Tesla to design the user interface for a mobile app that will control their next generation vehicle.

This vehicle will no longer use traditional dashboard- based controls. Rather, this vehicle will be self-driving and will rely exclusively on the app for all controls

Specifically, the app will have the following four key functions:

• Set destination
• Control audio system
• Control climate control
• Access the vehicle’s seating and storage area

• Deliverable 2 due: User research report and updated requirements (10%)

• In deliverable 1 you wrote an initial set of requirements based on your intuitive sense and any desk research that you might have

• In deliverable 2, you will now conduct research (interviews) with potential users of your app and use learnings from that research to update and add to your list of use cases &

• You will submit two items as part of deliverable 2:
  • User Research Report
  • Updated requirements document

• Type: Interviews
• Number of interviews: Six different people representing 3 different user groups/personas (i.e., two people per user group/persona)
• Each team member must lead two interviews and take notes for two interviews
• Interviews should be between 30-45 minutes each

• Key steps:
  • Identify learning goals
  • Identify user groups/personas
  • Write questions/interview script
  • Pilot test interview script
  • Recruit your participants and conduct your interviews
  • Analyze data in relation to your learning goals
  • Use learnings to update/add to use cases/requirements
  • Write report

Report should include the following sections:

• Introduction – brief overview of the product and why you are conducting interviews
• Learning goals – list and explain the learning goals; detail how each learning goal helps your team in this effort
• User groups – list and explain the user groups you selected; detail why you selected these particular user groups
• Overview of method – detail how your team executed the interviews, for example, when was your pilot, who did you do it with, who interviewed each participant and when. Include basic participant demographics in tabular
• Learnings – present your key findings and how you translated those findings into
• Include your interview script as an appendix

• Review and update your use cases and requirements for each of the four app functions listed on slide
• Use cases should use the template provided in Lecture 3, Slide 24. Also use slides 25 and 26 for
