Research and science have been involved in order to try and identify how the human memory can be unreliable in different situations. There are numerous times where scientific simulations have revealed that the brain is prone to fabrication (Loftus & Palmer, 1974). Schacter, Guerin & Jacques (2011) argue that the human brain is not a literal reproduction of the past event, but rather an imperfect reconstructive process that incorporates various kinds of errors and distortions.
The human memory is always in constant evolution according to Zacks, R. T., Hasher, L., & Li, K. Z. (2000). With recent scientific studies being undertaken to understand the evolution and development of memory, there have been concerns as to what extent are human memories vulnerable to fabrication or distortion. Research and science have been involved in order to try and identify how the human memory can be unreliable in different situations. There are numerous times where scientific simulations have revealed that the brain is prone to fabrication during evolution process. This leads to a belief that understanding the evolution and development of memory can support distinguishing false and true memories.
Spieler & Balota (2000) suggests that aging influences the quantity of remembered material. Conjunction or familiarity-based errors, and false memories (Rosa & Gutchess, 2013) are being observed at a higher rate in older adults.
