personal analysis and reflections

Students are requested to write an in depth analysis of a particular case which they have observed in
their practice/attachment. Marks will not be allocated to the actual description of the case; however
the case must be briefly described in a small text box. The case must be chosen with the objectives
in mind, but it is not expected that you will be able to identify a case which can fully satisfy all your
intended learning objectives. It is advised that you will still eventually discuss the “ if it was like this
scenario” for the purpose of demonstrating learning from the whole program of studies (Lectures,
tutorials, VLE and community exposure).
The rest of the writing should focus on your personal analysis and reflections in view of the
objectives as described in the link above.
It will be very useful to discuss and critically analyse the case using one or more paragraph for each
objective.
Underlining, highlighting or using italics (the latter for reflections only) will help and orient marking.
You can use references from the lecture notes and the literature available on the VLE or in the
general databases and journal articles available online.
Avoid the simplistic use of clichés or platitudes which do not convey a specific meaning in that
particular context.
Do not copy someone else’s work without making clear reference to the original work. Plagiarism
will invalidate your work. A soft copy of your work must be kept and it may be requested at any time
so that a random number of cases can be processed using the University software.

The GP examined her child physically but not before exploring further her….
A plan of action was discussed and the parties agreed the following….
Maximum 300 words (which do not count for the 2000 word limit on the whole
assignment)
One important way of demonstrating effective learning is the ability to demonstrate the application
and integration of the knowledge gained into the real case you have chosen. You can critically
discuss the actual case, the GP performance, your reflections and your own approach to the case.
Kindly use italics for your own reflections…
“ putting myself in the doctor’s role made me feel frustrated by the lack of objective signs that will
help me pin a diagnosis” “It is clear now that the crux of her reason for consultation was her
increasing anxiety about the hostile attitude of her parents and lack of real support from her
boyfriend” “In such a situation in contrast with the GP, I would have also focused on the possibility …
