pathophysiology of COPD
Description
In my area of practice, I had the opportunity of meeting Katy, a 57-year-old lady who was diagnosed with COPD, 8 years ago. She presented with shortness of breath, a chronic cough, and sputum production. At the time of assessment during admission, Katy reported that she is unable to care for herself and has difficulty managing her daily activities as she lives alone. Examination reveals that her body mass index is 18.5, indicating that she is underweight (BLF, 2019). She usually consumes about 20 cigarettes daily on average and She breathes through pursed lips. In addition, she takes salbutamol 200mcg, 4 times a day. The diagnosis is confirmed using spirometry.
