Summative Assessment (100% of the module marks) You are required to identify an area of operation in your organisation (or one you are familiar with) and conduct an analysis of this, using operational tools and techniques of data capture and analysis. Using this analysis (as well as additional operational design tools), you should develop an improved process to address the shortfalls you have identified. Your report is likely to comprise three sections:- 1. The operational area you are analysing, its purpose, and its “as is” position, in terms of its performance and its fitness for that purpose. (Try to add numeric data if possible) 2. The approach you adopted to analyse and improve this operational area (In terms of data gathered and tools and techniques used to analyse and improve it). 3. The outcome/findings of your analysis and your recommendations for the new process. attached files: 1. resit assignment question details 2. previous version of annotated notes from tutor, explained why it failed the core textbook is “Operations Management by by Nigel Slack and Alistair Brandon-Jones”. here is feedback from tutor: This is an extremely poor interpretation of the assignment brief which says almost nothing about the application of process improvement techniques. The report comprises a historic case study which describes the actions of a small number of managers in exceptionally poor detail. Two extremely simplistic flow charts are provided to describe the manufacturing processes. The first is said to have been effective in identifying redundant “items” in the current production system, “automating some activities” (I am not sure which activities, or how a flow chart achieves this), and identifying bottlenecks. None of these outcomes are described in the report. The second chart comprises seven operations (described as “step 1”; step 2; … and is entitled – Swim Lane Chart Showing “all” the manufacturing???? The author insists on providing the first name of the management team members with every activity they undertake, and continuously offers what seems to be his opinion of the personal relationships between this group. I have no idea what this is meant to contribute to the report. Please read my comments in the report itself to see the confusion experienced in following this script. A confusing piece of work that was a struggle to understand especially the continual use of the team members actions. Sadly, there was little connection between the two tools shoagnwn and the corresponding text.
