Music 11 Project
For the music project, students are to:
• Watch the performance videos in the college’s concert series called “BCC ONLINE CONCERT SERIES”.
• Take notes of your observations, descriptions, and overall reaction of each performance.
• Choose 2 of the performance videos that you really enjoyed and would like to write about.
• Write 2 separate papers — a separate paper for each performance video.
• Refer to the RUBRIC for this assignment.
• Each paper is to be a minimum of 3-4 pages.

By watching all four videos in their entirety, you can discover and choose the two performances you find more interesting to
write about. When you have chosen the two videos, continue to watch them over again while you are writing the paper. Repeat
viewings will help you in observing more things to write about that you may have missed the first time.

Each performance video has a program booklet. Download these PDFs and review the booklet for the names of the music
pieces and movements, names of the composers, and names of the performing artists.

When you have completed your two papers, upload your papers onto CUNYDropbox.

The list of the performing artists to choose from: Ana Maria Rosado, guitar; Tyler Duncan and Erika Switzer; Mivos
Quartet; Oliver Markson; Dr. Benjamin Yarmolinsky; Bodoma Garifuna Culture Band; Sweet Plantain Quartet;
Valerie Capers Trio; and Lahti & Friends.
For each paper, introduce, describe, discuss, and reflect on the performances.
• Correctly identify the videos you have chosen by performers, title of the pieces, and the composers.
• Describe and characterize individual works and movements and their respective composers.
• Recognize instruments and ensembles.
• Utilize musical terminology correctly and insightfully.
• Make specific observations about performances.
• Describe interactions among performers.
• Evaluate the performances. Give your opinion of the performances with supporting examples.
• Organize paper into coherent paragraphs that describe every aspect of the concert.
• Use vocabulary and concepts learned in class.
• Use correct grammar.
• Lastly, give a lively sense of the event as experienced and as compared to other musical experiences.
Points are deducted if the following requirements are not met:
• Each paper must be a minimum of 3-4 pages of written content for the paper
• Papers must be typed
• One-inch margins
• Double space only
• 12-point font size, Times New Roman font
• Papers must be organized.
• Proofread for grammar and correct spelling of music titles, movements, composers and performers
• Correct use of music terminology
• Late papers will have points deducted for each day it is late.
Policy on Plagiarism, Internet Plagiarism, and Academic Integrity:
Plagiarism is to take and present another person’s ideas or words as one’s own. Internet plagiarism includes paraphrasing or
copying information from the Internet without citing the source, and “cutting and pasting” from various sources without proper
attribution. Academic dishonesty is prohibited in The City University of New York (CUNY) and is punishable by penalties,
including failing grades, suspension, and expulsion. Examples of Academic Dishonesty include cheating, plagiarism, Internet
plagiarism, obtaining unfair advantage, and falsification of records.
