Motivation Lesson Plan

SLO language #3 The students will be able define words based off of the context. The students will be able to present official definitions. The students will be able to discern the connotative and denotative definitions of words.
SLO content #3 The students will learn new definitions of words having to do with different genres of American music: blues, jazz, rock & roll, folk, country, and classical.413 minuS/L The students will break into groups of each letter (5 groups—each having one person from the previous groups (all A’s together, all B’s together, etc)). They will explain their part of the article to each of the other members of their new group based off of the main points that the writer of their number group wrote down. The other students are encouraged to ask questions about other students’ parts of the article. The students will then decide where each paragraph that they will bring to the group fits in the article. Article paragraphs from activity #2.
SLO language #4 The students will be able to summarize the main points of a paragraph; and as a group, the students will be able to determine what order the paragraphs should go in using the introductory sentences and chronological order of the article.
SLO content #4 The students, individually, will be able to present the main ideas of their portion of a text and answer questions about them.

3-7 minutes (buffer time in case one of the other activities goes over)
