Activity 4: Google Case Study
Your Activity responses should be both grammatically and mechanically correct, and formatted
in the same fashion as the Activity itself. If there is a Part A, your response should identify a Part
A, etc. In addition, you must appropriately cite all resources used in your response and document
in a bibliography using APA style. (100 points) (A 4-page response is required.)
For this activity, you will explore some of the HR practices at Google that have been integral to
the company’s long-term success. This activity also illustrates specific components of Google’s
HR strategy and provides insights into some of the challenges Google faces as it continues to
grow. Google has asked you to review its current company’s benefits, pay, hiring, employee
development, and employee retention practices. Google recognizes it may need to shift hiring
practices as it grows to an international level. Management wants to maintain its strong company
culture. The Google executive you meet with poses the following questions.
1. What do you think of the idea of Google correlating personal traits from the employees’
answers on the survey to their performance, and then using that as the basis for screening
job candidates? In other words, is it or is it not a good idea? Please explain your answer.
2. The benefits that Google pays obviously represent an enormous expense. Based on what
you know about Google and on what you have read, how would you defend all these
benefits via a presentation to the security analysts who were analyzing Google’s
performance?
3. We want to continue hiring the best and brightest people around. How would you go
about recruiting and selecting them?
