Media representation and identity /AN
Write a 1.5 to 2 page reaction paper (double-spaced, 1″ margins, 12-point font) that thoughtfully discusses the ideas you read about in these items. It is entirely up to you if you would like to include anything personal about your own experiences, but you are in no way required to do that – please write about whatever you feel comfortable writing about.
If you aren’t sure where to start, here are some points you could consider discussing (you can discuss all of these or none of these or anything in between): 1) What are some key themes of the readings for today? 2) Have you previously reflected on how the media represents your identity vs. the identity of people from groups that are different than you? Describe a bit about what you had previously noticed on this topic and/or how these readings influenced your understanding of media representation. 3) Why do you think it might be important for children to see themselves represented in a positive way? How can a lack of representation have a negative effect on a child? 4) Discuss some things that you learned in these readings that you found interesting and/or surprising.
