Dear Hiring Committee:

I am writing to apply for the Language Instructor Position (Thai Language) posted on the university website.  I have vast experience that relates well to the aforementioned position. Currently, I am teaching the Thai language and culture to the Peace Corps volunteers who will be working in Thailand starting in mid- April 2018- March 2020. There are 73 volunteers who are coming for training Thai Language, before they are sent to their duty stations to various provinces across the country. It is an intensive 10 week courses. I have the privilege to help them learn about the language and culture of our country in order to help them adapt to their new environment. My main goal is to help my students be able to communicate with Thai people in both formal and informal standard and easily apply it through the real life situation. Peace Corps teaching style is different than other language institutions as we use mainly in Thai in class and using body languages to convey message. I have found out that it is very effective methods because after finishing this intensive course, students are able to tell their stories, questioning with people and using several complex sentences and the atmosphere of my class will be fun, relaxed, flexible, and happy. I have also received good feedback both from my supervisor and my students.

Prior to Peace Corps, I was a freelance interpreter and a translator for various companies. I was also working as an independent contractor for the Catholic Charities, one of the largest charities in the United States, providing services to help refugees and immigrants freely communicate language barriers.

Besides working and studying, I have been a volunteer at a Thai Buddhist Temple for more than seven years. My volunteer work involves helping the monks and other members who are mostly immigrants and refugees. The refugees and immigrants have poor mastery of the English language and, therefore, require assistance in handling their personal affairs. At  the temple, I have set up various workshop programs such as medical & legal interpreter trainings, florist sessions, and English programs for adults. I build up a small library for children providing both English and Thai books in many sections by taking donations from various places in order to enable them to enhance their reading skills while waiting for their parents at the temple.

I am also conduct an online teaching preparing for  Thai and Lao people who are interested in becoming an interpreter/ translator for Paiboon Language Academy, one of the largest interpreter online study group for, having more than 4,000 members following its website.

As a Thai, who has been living in the United States for the last four years, I understand the challenges facing people living in a different country. I assure you that my diverse cultural background will enrich the diversity of the university.
