Letter to a Chosen Ancestor
For this final assignment in SOC 483, you will write a letter to a chosen ancestor. You will choose a person, whether you imagine you are their biological descendant or you descend from their intellectual, literary or political tradition, that lived 100 years ago when the world looked very different. This chosen ancestor could be someone real or fictive, but they just have to have lived long ago.
In this letter, you will address the following:
Use two major concepts or theories in our course material (bolded in the text)
Explain these concepts
Juxtapose them with what that ancestor may know as a global phenomenon
Compare them to today’s version of that global phenomenon
The letter must be 2-3 pages (or 500-750 words max), double spaced, 12 point font, and must reference at least 2 readings from this course.

In this final exercise, you will demonstrate your mastery of concepts in this course in accessible language. This assignment will engage your sociological imagination as you are to imagine and create a conversation with people in the past. Lastly, it engages your comparative analysis in global sociological phenomena.
