Lessons Learned
Everyone has to take deliberate and calculated steps in the quest to improve his or her leadership skills. Name one step you took that was beneficial and helped you. Give just a little detail. Now, list a misstep–something you did that backfired on you. Without going into a lot of detail or beating yourself up too much, tell us a lesson or two that you learned.
1.I improve my leadership skills by enrolling in courses such as this Public Safety course and FEMA leadership courses online. I believe the skills I learned helped me as a police sergeant and prepared me for the rank of lieutenant.
2. Going from the military and its structure into law enforcement was an eye opener. As much a police officer are para military the real military structure could not be apply. For example, in the military you are ordered to do something, and it gets done. However, in policing one must be aware of unions and policies that prohibit barking orders. And if an officer feels mistreated, they can go to the union and file a grievance.
