• Clinical Journal – This is a Journal Entry #1. (You should follow the formatting of the example attached; this should be 3 pgs. not as extensive as samples are). Please remember APA format. The main part is literature review and you MUST ATTACH (in pdf format) the article you find so I can submit it to my instructor.
Remember, these entries should be well-written in narrative form. Remember to focus on the role of the person you are shadowing, in this case Health Promotion/Health Educator (not any specific disease process, condition, medication, etc).

Start with Summary of activities: Summary of all activities for the project and course work. Include breakdown of your hours for the week at the project site, hours searching for article, hours spent on coursework.

Risk anticipation, the ability to critically evaluate and anticipate risks to client safety is a critical component of the CNL role. At the systems level (risk to any client) and the individual level (account for client history, co-morbidities, etc.) it is necessary to anticipate risk when new technology, equipment, treatment regimens or medication therapies are introduced. Tools for risk analysis, e.g. failure mode evaluation analysis, root cause analysis, and quality improvement methodologies, and the potential use of large data sets, are important concepts in the armamentarium of the CNL.

Altruism is a concern for the welfare and well-being of others. In professional practice, altruism is reflected by the CNL’s concern for the welfare of clients, other nurses, and other health care providers. Sample professional behaviors include: • demonstrates understanding of cultures, beliefs, and perspectives of others; • advocates for clients, particularly the most vulnerable;
• takes risks on behalf of clients and colleagues; and • mentors other professionals

Critical review of the literature: (this is the most important part).
The research articles that you use should be scholarly research articles only. If an article doesn’t have an abstract, it isn’t research. News or editorials are not scholarly. YOU ONLY NEED ONE RESEARCH ARTICLE PER JOURNAL.
For the review of literature section, this should be a critical analysis of the article. You need to tell me more than “it was about this…” Describe the type of study, level of evidence, participants, tools, results, etc. Then, you need to related that article/topic to your experience or the role of your preceptor, (Assistant Director for Health Promotion ). Therefore, when you’re doing your research you should be finding articles related to the role of this person and things that they encounter in their position.

•Full discussion of the article to include defining and describing ALL of the concepts in the article
•If a research article, the hypothesis and/or research question are discussed
•Also include the study design, number and description of participants, research methods, results, and conclusions/implications for practice
•The level of evidence must be included!
•Articles published in professional journals!
•Must be less than 5 years old!

Comparison of theory to the practice:
•Narrative
•How did your clinical experiences compare to the theoretical concepts you discussed in the critical review of the literature section?
•Does theory and real-life match?
•Compare all key points of the article to your project’s implementation
•For shadowing projects, the reactions and feedback to the article from the nurse you are shadowing must be included!
•You must demonstrate effective application of the article in your project!
