1. What previous business experiences did the founders of Joking Hazard have before they began
this business venture?
· Rob Denbleyker was the founder, creator and developer of the product
· Later gave the pitch to friends Kris Wilson, Dave McElfatrick and partnered with them
· Rob was a member of Cyanide & Happiness and used branding through this to develop Joking Hazard
· Rob ran the animation studio at Cyanide & Happiness and got the idea after he had been toying around
with an online random comic generator and decided to make a game out of it
2. What was the reason for choosing Kickstarter as the platform to raise funding?
· Rob had previous experiences with Kickstarter through his time at Cyanide and Happiness
· Kickstarter offers a larger platform allowing people to engage in a product through a trusted means
· They were able to offer a social media party engagement aspect of the campaign
· It was a social campaign including ridiculous social-based goals to engage the audience and bring
them in (examples of this on page)
· Kickstarter worked with them to promote Joking Hazard on the front page of their website
· Joking Hazard offered rewards for each campaign goal that was reached (trump tweets, Facebook
likes, drawing on your dads forehead with a sharpie, etc.)
3. Was it Joking Hazard’s intention to organize a rewards-based crowdfunding campaign, or an equity
crowdfunding campaign?
· Kickstarter only lasts the length of the campaign and then the company is on its own and must be able
to deliver their product to the customers in a timely manner
· They are still fulfilling orders even after their campaign on Kickstarter came to an end
· Most businesses start with the intention of earning a profit, but being able to engage with their
customers/fans and communicate with them through fun campaign goals was exciting for them
· After Kickstarter, they were able to branch out through retail and wholesale markets; now offers the
game at Target and on Amazon
