Teacher’s Instructions for research paper:
This research paper might be different from others that you’ve written. In the past, I’ve assigned a traditional research paper for this class. But you aren’t expected to have any IT background for this class. That makes it hard to attack a subject that you’re in the middle of learning.
So for this research paper, you’ll be analyzing five articles on a topic of your choice in Information Technology. That will give you experience researching a topic in the IT area.
Security is the only topic that I’m disallowing. I’ll be asking you to tell me your chosen topic in Week 2. You can send me an email any time if you have questions about a topic choice.
The quality of your sources is critical. Peer-reviewed journals or books are expected in a graduate research paper.
There is no need to create an abstract for this paper.
Your paper should include the following sections. Please include the section titles in your paper:
Cover Page
OK, you don’t actually include the words “Cover Page” on the cover page. But the titles for the remaining sections should be included in the paper.
Introduction
Some information on the topic you’ve chosen. Any facts you use in your introduction should be cited. You need 7 references to get full credit.
Literature Review
Briefly summarize each of the five papers on the topic.
Comparative Review
This section has two parts. First, identify points from the papers where they vary and discuss those.Then, identify areas where the papers agree with one another.
Ethical Considerations
In our textbook, the Chapter 1 Ethics Guide – Ethics and Professional Responsibility – there is a definition and discussion of Kant’s Categorical Imperative. In the Chapter 2 Ethics Guide – The Lure of Love Bots – there is a second way of evaluating ethical conduct called Utilitarianism.
In this section of your research paper, you will analyze the ethical considerations related to your topic. Please evaluate it from at least the two perspectives of Kant’s Categorical Imperative and Utilitarianism.
Conclusion
Have a brief conclusion to wrap up key points gained from the research.
References
Of course, your five articles will be here, plus any other article you cite for support. Remember that you need at least 7 references (that’s two in addition to your five articles) for full credit.
The body of the paper should be 5-6 pages in APA double-spaced format, not including cover page or references.
