The activity will be as follows:
First,
Read Rahnema, M. (2006). Towards Post-Development: Searching for Signposts, A New language and New Paradigms. In V. Rahnema, Majid; Bawtree (Ed.), The Post-Development Reader. (pp. 377–404). London: Zed Books.

Take some notes and let it rest for a little bit, do not read Kippler’s paper just yet.

Second,
Write your opinions about his arguments and position in a word document. Describe if you agree or not with him and why. You can also write your personal feelings about the reading in a journal.

Third, read Kippler, C. (2010). Exploring post-development: politics, the state and emancipation. The question of alternatives. Polis Journal, 3, 1–38. Review your previous notes on Rahnema’s texts, and write what do you think about development and post-development perspectives and how these positions are related to your professional practice.

Fourth,
Watch the Guest lecture. Healing Walks & Cultural Recovery – Mr Neil Murray, Lake Bolac

Review your previous notes on the readings, and think about how they are related to Neil Murray`s experiences.

Fifth,
Post your responses on the discussion board. Your response should reflect around your understanding of post-development, and how it is related to Neil Murray’s experiences, and to your own personal experience in the field or at University.

Note:
For this exercise, optional readings such as Escobar’s and Nederveen Pieterse’s papers would be very useful. They are available on the module page.

I am aware that this exercise will introduce concepts that are based on philosophical traditions to which not all of us may be familiar, so if you have any questions please send me an email or post them on the Questions and Answers discussion board, which will enrich all students learning.
