Infographic Creation and App/Software Reflective Review
Assignment Instructions
Select an appropriate app or software to use to design one infographic.
Create a content appropriate infographic for use in your instruction.
Review the efficacy of the app or software used.
Step One
Below is some information about a few of the digital resources (apps/software) available for creating infographics:
Chartle
Picktochart
Google Auto Draw
Other apps/software programs may be used, but you must save your work in a format that the instructor can access (e.g., PDF or JPG).
Step Two
An Infographic is a graphic, visual representation of information, data, and/or knowledge intended to present information quickly, clearly, and accurately.
For step 2 of this assignment, you will create one digital infographic on a specific piece of content that you teach or plan to teach. A few examples are provided in Blackboard to spark your creativity, but you should not automatically use them as the format for your selected content. In other words, let your content dictate the structure for your informational graphic.
There are three basic types of infographics:
Basic: 1) Title/Headline, 2) Information/content, conclusions, sources/citation(s)
Statistical: Data (i.e., numbers, charts, graphs, tables)
Informational: Informational chunked text (e.g. steps in a process; sequence of events/timeline of events or ideas).
Use elements of Basic for the structure and Informational for the content. Some of you may need to use the Statistical type for this assignment. Some of you may integrate elements of all three into your infographic. Let your content lead your choices. Whatever your approach, to be infographic information, including text, must be included in a manner that supports age-appropriate learning.
Step Three
Using a paragraph form, write a brief reflective review the app/software using MS Word. The reflective review should focus on the efficacy 1) of infographics and 2) the efficacy of the selected app/software in terms of its usefulness for creating educational infographics. Questions to reflect on and consider include:
Paragraph One (3-5 sentences)
From your perspective as an educator, what is the efficacy of infographics as learning tools for your learners?
Paragraph Two (3-5 sentences)
Name of the App/Software used along with where to access it. Is it free? What platforms does it work on? (phone tablet, laptop, web)?
What are 2 strengths of the app/software for creating infographics?
What is 1 challenge of the app/software for creating infographics?
Note: you may reverse this to have 2 challenges and 1 strength, if needed, for a total of three.
How user friendly was it for you? How user friendly would it be for your learners? Explain your choice.
Be sure to attach both the infographic file and the Word file to the appropriate Blackboard assignment link.
