The second paper offers students a chance to revise the first paper based on instructor feedback and ADD to the previous paper with new “Paper 2” content, so students will submit a ~8 page paper, with ~4 pages of “new” content (although the first paper of the paper will likely be revised based on instructor feedback.) The paper should reference at least three additional readings from modules 6 – 10 of class. The grade on this final revision is worth 20% of your total grade.
In paper 2, students will add in an institutional analysis, in examining how individual experiences are structurally situated. In this revision, students should revisit all three of the individual level examples of identity (from Paper 1) and incorporate an institutional analysis of these identities. For example, students should reflect on how your experiences of privilege and oppression connect to social institutions. Identify how these individual issues connect to at least two social institutions (e.g., government, education, familial, medical, media, criminal justice, religion) (i.e., one institution can be used for more than one identity, but you must use at least two different institutions.)
A grading rubric based on these criteria is attached here for your reference. Also included in this document is the larger description of this assignment.
