Human Development Index OR Income.

For this mini assignment, you will be using the website Gapminder. I want you to
specifically look at the Tools section to explore the graph. It is very helpful and important
for you to watch the How To Use video at the top of the page.
For the X-axis, you must choose either Human Development Index OR Income.
For the Y-axis, you are free to choose any indicator that tells you more about the quality
of life across the world. You need to use your own academic judgement to determine
what is appropriate for the y-axis based on what we have learned so far. I am not going
to be ‘approving’ indicators that are chosen.
Now that you have chosen your indicators, and you are exploring your graph, I want you
to tell me more about what it shows.
1. You may choose to write out your response. It should be about 2 pages double
spaced.
Key Criteria:
– What type of relationship is present on your graph? (When X increases, what
happens to Y?). Is it a positive correlation or a negative correlation? Explain why
that correlation is present. What caused the results of the relationship? Use the
specific countries on the graph to guide why that relationship is present. Use key
terms and our discussions in class to help explain the correlation.
– Choose a developing country from your graph. For that specific country, explain
what changes would have to occur so that it can eventually move to where the
developed countries’ positions are? Think about changes in society, the economy,
and quality of life overall.
