Health Informatics

Part 1 – Write an essay comparing and contrasting evidence-based practice (EBP) and practice-based evidence (PBE). Be sure to define each term, how they interrelate, agencies that may direct quality or safety standards or practices, and fully describe the role data analysis and informatics play in building knowledge required for optimal patient care.

Assignment Expectations – Part 1

Length: 1250 – 1500 words

Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA style. These do not count towards the minimum word count for this assignment.

References: Use the appropriate APA style in-text citations and references for all resources utilized to answer the questions. Include at least three (3) scholarly sources to support your claims.

Format: Save your assignment as a Microsoft Word document (.doc or .docx).

Filename: Name your saved file according to your first initial, last name, and the module number (for example, “RHall Module 1.docx”)

Instructor approval with this module is needed to assure student is on the correct course before further work. Please submit a selected patient-focused nurse sensitive indicator (NSI) for approval, (you will find a template in the Nursing sensitive indicators for nursing care: A systematic review article) via dropbox. Data and at least three peer-reviewed research journal articles on this NSI will be gathered and reviewed for a final project.

Get data from the Quality Department at a clinical institution regarding any improvement projects undertaken over the timespan of up to the past three calendar years related to the selected patient-focused NSI.

If a student does not have access to data at an institution, the Medicare.gov website publicly reported data to work with.

Add a zip code, use provider type “hospital,” search and select. Once a hospital is found in the desired area, click into the facility title hyperlink and then search under the “Quality” tab. There may be limited data available as not all measures are publicly reported. Feel free to explore other public websites such as National Institute of Health for reportable data on these important indicators as well.
