I have developed the following PICOT question: For the diabetic, does education regarding self-care and does a supportive education plan and/or family, improve self-efficacy, and reduce short and long-term complications of the disease?  Self-care education and a supportive education plan or family have been used as interventions to improve self-efficacy and reduce short and long-term complications of diabetes. Self-care education allows for a framework that makes it easy to understand and predict diabetes. For a diabetic person to effectively manage themselves, they need knowledge concerning their disease and integrating their education with disease management (Powers et al., 2021). Sufficient knowledge will assist diabetic patients in gaining confidence about their medical treatment, exercise, and diet.

Nursing Intervention

In the healthcare facility, nursing interventions to help achieve self-efficacy and reduce short and long-term complications of diabetes are important because they help attain fast positive clinical outcomes. Nurses will teach patients self-management skills to effectively curb any severe undesirable complications (Pinchera, DelloIacono & Lawless, 2018). Nurses are also important to explain the benefits of the treatment interventions used. They can also assist the patient to understand the severity of their disease and help the patient improve his health literacy. Follow-up calls are also effective to determine the progress of the patient’s condition, thereby making all the relevant stakeholders aware of the patient’s condition.

Patient Care

To reduce the mortality and morbidity associated with diabetes, patients with diabetes must carry out self-management activities daily. These are behaviors and activities that assist a diabetic person in treating and controlling their condition. Diabetic people are also required to monitor their health regularly. Typically, self-management of diabetes often happens at home and entails testing one blood sugar levels, taking balanced diet meals, and participating in regular exercise. The patient is also required to drink water frequently and evade dehydration (Kim, Lee & Seo, 2021). All medications given should also be taken as prescribed by the doctor. In some cases, medications can be adjusted when necessary. The patient is also required to conduct a self-foot check. It is also necessary that the patient checks and monitors for signs and symptoms brought by diabetes.

Whereas it is critical for diabetic individuals to formulate and participate in self-management practices, self-management can also entail friends, other caregivers, and family members. These individuals will enhance open communication regarding efficient self-management practices, administer medications o insulin, monitor blood sugar levels, engage in exercise activities, model healthy behaviors, and provide emotional support. Improved social support from friends and family can assist in building self-efficacy to self-manage the diabetes condition.
