Rosa (2017) states, “Expanding one’s self-concept toward the ideals of global citizenship has much to offer both the profession of nursing and global health at large” (p. 82). The text also offers a definition for a global citizen as, “someone who identifies first and foremost not as a member of a state, tribe or nation, but instead as a member of the human race” (p.82).
In regards to Moral Imagination, Rosa (2017) states, “It is not just about how one sees the world, but remaining deliberate regarding one’s ethical agenda to improve the quality of life for all human beings and demonstrating actions that align with such principles” (p. 93).
After reviewing Chapter 4: Global Nurse Citizenship, and focusing on the section entitled Moral Imagination: An Ethical Premise for the Global Nurse Citizen and Box 4.1- Assumptions of Moral Imagination, please answer the following two topics below in your discussion post:
- How do you define your role as a global nurse citizen?
- After self- reflecting and reviewing the assumptions of “Moral Imagination” (p.94), how could you incorporate any of these assumptions into your current nursing practice to contribute to building a global environment “based on dignity”?
- While answering this question, you may find it helpful to refer to Table 4.3- Moral Imagination Reflective Inventory to begin to identify your thoughts, beliefs and behaviors.
