Appendix A – Census Profile Steps
1) Go to: https://www12.statcan.gc.ca/census-recensement/2016/dp-pd/prof/index.cfm?Lang=E
2) Search your CMA name:
3) Get search results. In this example, I searched “Kelowna”. You will likely get multiple results; select the
ones for the Census Metropolitan Area (CMA)

4) Your results should look like this. If you selected the wrong thing, or you want to change the data you have
displayed, you can click on “Change Geography” to identify another location.
5) To download the data, click this button:

6) Select “Option 1: Download data as displayed in data table” and then select “CSV.” CSV stands for Comma
Separated Values, data file type that is readable by many different software programs, such as Excel.
7) Select “OK” and the file will open in Ecxel (if you have this enabled on your computer). If not, save the file
and use another software program to open it.

8) Voila! Census data for Kelowna CMA in Excel. Now I can easily create bar graphs, pie charts, or line graphs.
There are 2250 lines of data, so pick carefully what you want to include.
