Formulation Interview
The purpose of the cultural formulation interview discussion board is for students to understand the importance of cultural influences on mental health and illness as well as providing diverse culturally sensitivity psychiatric services, analyze and discuss these concepts.
Directions:
Students will complete a cultural bound syndrome case study discussion board initial post and post a reply. Read Sadock & Sadock Chapter 3, watch cultural formulation interview video clip and review the course cultural formulation presentation and read DSM 5, pg 749 Cultural Formulation.
Choose one cultural bound syndrome or a diverse cultural ethnicity that students have researched (that they have no knowledge about) using the University website or valid transcultural website to research additional information. Write about the cultural bound syndrome or diverse cultural belief regarding mental health and mental illness. What is the etiology, belief system, symptoms or emotions or behaviors they may be commonly displayed (write it like a case study)? What else would the Post Master Mental Health Nurse Practitioner want to ask to find out how to provide culturally congruent care? How will the nurse practitioner provide mental health care for this cultural population? What will be the recommendations for providing care and/or therapy for this cultural bound syndrome or a culturally diverse adult individual? Write specifics about the therapeutic approach. Write at the graduate level, use APA cited references. This should be a minimum of three paragraphs, not counting the references. Must be at least two valid references/resources.
