READ THROUGH THE FOLLOWING SCENARIO CAREFULLY:
At 21.00 hours on the 30th September, Miss Hermione Granger was walking home
following a night out with some friends when she realised that she was being followed.
Upon opening the front door of her dwelling, she was pushed violently into her house
by a man wearing a balaclava. Her attacker then forced the front door shut behind
them, trapping her with him in the entrance hallway.
Once inside, the attacker struck Miss Granger many times about the head with an
unidentified object causing a head wound which bled profusely. Using a scarf, the man
then tied it as a gag around her mouth to prevent her from making any noise and then
used parcel tape to bind her hands behind her back. He then left her in the hallway
where her head wound continued to bleed.
The offender then proceeded to search the property, forcing open any drawers that
were locked in order to steal a number of items including a mobile phone, a laptop
computer and various items of jewellery.
On trying to leave the house, he discovered that the rear doors were all locked. He
therefore smashed the glass in one of the rear patio doors and climbed out through
the resulting damage. He then smashed the passenger side window of a vintage Ford
Anglia parked in the parking space to the rear of the property, hot-wired the vehicle to
start it and drove away at speed from the scene.
Approximately 15 minutes after the offender left, Miss Grangers’s partner returned to
find her in a distressed and state trying to free her hands and mouth. He quickly
removed the scarf gag and freed her hands from the parcel tape restraints before
calling the police to report the incident. The stolen car was stopped at 02.00 on the 1
st
October as it was seen on CCTV being driven at speed through a neighbouring town
centre. The driver of the car, Mr Vincent Crabbe, was arrested in connection with the
offence in question. On arrest it was noticed that Mr Crabbe had a bleeding injury on
his left hand.
