Today we’re watching four* out of the ‘Five Truths’ project undertaken by the
UK’s National Theatre, directed by Katie Mitchell, and acted by Michelle Terry.
The content of each scene is the same—Ophelia’s preparation for her suicide in
Hamlet. The truths we’re looking at are, according to a dramaturg who
worked on the project, “five views of how to convey the truth held by
Stanislavsky, Artaud, Brecht, [and] Grotowski.” Though we’ve not read
Stanislavski, we can allow the Stanislavski truth video to stand for Realism,
which we have looked at & discussed.

depictions are an accurate reflection of the theories of the practitioner/
theorists. (For Stanislavski you may assume the background of psychological
realism; i.e., in what way(s) does the performance reflect (or not) the truth(s)
of psychological realism?)
*The fifth truth, focusing on director Peter Brook, we’re not considering for the
final, since we’ve not looked at his work. But it’s quite interesting & I
recommend it to you.
