Fight Club Reflection Paper

Purpose/Background
Fight Club is about more than just men fighting; it’s about several weighty themes. Readers are meant to reflect on the world around them, as well as their own priorities and identities, once they finish the novel.

Assignment
Write a 2-3 page paper reflecting on ONE THEME of Fight Club, such as cultism, masculinity, identity crisis, Id vs. super-ego, materialism, and consumerism. If you can think of another one, go for it (just check with me first)! As we’ve discussed, the novel goes into great detail exploring all of these ideas, so you should have a lot to work with no matter which you choose. Include at least FIVE EXAMPLES from the text and be sure to elaborate on what purposes this theme serves not just in the context of the book, but for us as real people in a real society. Also, be sure to follow the proper format guidelines, including proper MLA IN-TEXT CITATIONS and a Works Cited page.

What are its components?”
“Which theme speaks to me the most?”
“How does the narrator, Marla, Tyler, and other characters exemplify this theme?”
“Which quotes and situations provide the best support for this?”
“How does my research help support my argument?”

You MUST and CAN only use TWO SOURCES – the book “Fight Club” and one outside REPUTABLE SCHOLARLY source that is either about the book or your theme
