Factors affecting job (dis)satisfaction amongst Scottish retail employees

The dissertation will explore factors leading to job dissatisfaction among Scottish retail workers focusing, specifically on one of the UK’S leading supermarkets. The proposal outlines the research problem that job dissatisfaction levels in the retail industry tends to be higher than average. The aims and objectives are then set out and focus mainly on finding out what factors lead to job dissatisfaction and if policy is in place to prevent it. This is then followed by a literature review which looks at job (dis)satisfaction in general, workers experiences in retail then job design/job quality and stress. The research methodology is then explained, an inductive approach will be taken, and qualitative one-to-one in-depth interviews carried out amongst a small number of staff. Data collection and analysis is also provided, detailing the sample and types of data that will be used. Finally, some limitations are looked at and an initial timetable for completion is given.
