Explanation of What You Learned From Your Research and How It Can Be Applied

Format of Assignment:
 Prepare paper on the topic that was approved in Week 5
 Write up paper consisting of 3-5 pages (not including cover page or reference list) with 1.5
spacing, 1 or 1.25 inch margins, size 11 or 12 rounded font, including 3 cited sources that present
information beyond general background on your client and that do not duplicate any of your
teammates' sources or sources from your benchmarking paper.
 Ensure the paper incorporates boldface headings to guide the reader.
Content of the paper:
1. Background – briefly describe company, value proposition, and why you selected this topic to
research  (Note, however, that background info on client should be shorter than what your team
provided in the Capstone Brief; most of the paper should focus on your new research)
2. Explanation of What You Learned From Your Research and How It Can Be Applied to Your
Capstone Project (include analysis and application–not just facts). Use footnotes to cite sources.
3. Have a short introduction and conclusion for the paper  (introduction explains purpose of paper
and conclusion leaves audience with key takeaways).
NOTE: You should be able to fold earlier work into this assignment!  Be sure to review
feedback you received from your instructor on any earlier work you re-use.
Attached is the rubric that will be used to grade this assignment.
This is an individual assignment. You will have an opportunity to incorporate work from
this assignment into team assignments–to include the Mid-term Team Presentation and
Paper due next week.
**GUIDANCE ON FOOTNOTES**
WHEN ARE FOOTNOTES REQUIRED?
 If you are giving a personal opinion or recounting a personal experience, footnotes
are not required.

are not required.
 Any data or information you obtained from sources–such as websites, books, articles, papers,
reports, or personal communication with others–requires footnotes.
 Quoting material verbatim from a source should not happen often in this course.  If you do quote,
you must follow Chicago Style Manual conventions for direct quotes. (Otherwise, you will be
plagiarizing.)
