Planning and Pre-writing

-Use the question to form a thesis statement (topic + point or argument about the topic).
-Find literary evidence to support your thesis (two textual references per supporting paragraph).

-Use the paper outline provided in Blackboard.
-Decide on a topic for each supporting paragraph, referencing key words from your thesis.
-Write your thesis in the intro paragraph.
-Find supporting evidence from the play (with textual citations in parenthesis) and put the quotes into supporting paragraphs.
– Copy quotes from the secondary source that match up with your analysis and quotes (include citations) into relevant supporting paragraphs.
Draft 1: Write.
-Using the outline, draft the essay’s supporting paragraphs around the topic sentence, literary evidence, and secondary source quotes. Focus on topic sentences, leads to quotes, and interpretation and analysis after quotes.
-Write concluding statements and transitions at the end of each paragraph.
Draft 2: Develop and Revise
-Review the intro and thesis for accuracy and adequate development.
-Check order of supporting paragraphs for unity and coherency (flow of ideas and connections between ideas).
-Work to develop the interpretation and analysis in supporting paragraphs comprehensively. Explain how and why. Offer reasoning to support your ideas.
-Smooth out leads to quotes.
Draft 3: Edit and Proof
-Read your paper out loud to catch any sentences that need re-working.
-Edit out empty words like this, it, things, something etc. Be specific.
-Edit out you, we, and I.

-Secondary source should also be cited parenthetically (Last name) or (Last name 88).
-Both the primary and secondary source need a works cited entry.
-Check sentence punctuation with quotes.
-Check your works cited page to be sure you have a citation for both the primary and secondary text.
