Your report should briefly review the market, the major players within that market and the key trends that are likely to affect the development of a communications campaign for the company. Your report should also contain a review of the recent marketing communications undertaken by the company and how this compares with the competition. The review should be written in report format, in clear business English. It must be properly referenced using the Harvard system and a complete reference list should be included at the end. Tips on content Start with an introduction on the company and its product(s)/service – this is just to set the scene – don’t spend too many words here. Then tell us who their major competitors are and how these firms compete, ie price or differentiation. If it’s differentiation, then on what do they differentiate? Are there lots of competitors or just a few? Are they mostly big or small? This is about competitive structure – is it a fragmented market? Who are the customers for these products/services? What kinds of marketing communications are used in this marketplace? Look at past campaigns. You may like to try Brand Republic, the Creative Club and/or WARC for this. Discuss your clients campaigns as well as the competitions and compare them. Make sure you have a good conclusions section in which you draw attention to the most important things that you have found out the things that will influence the design of any campaign. Finish with a recommendations section. Make sure you justify your marketing communications ideas by referring back to things you discussed in the main body of the report. Make sure that your recommendations are about a marketing communications campaign no new product ideas or changes in corporate strategy please. Remember to explain and justify all your points.
