CHAPTER 3: Practical uses of developed models and methods in projects of MIS implementation
3.1 Practical application example of a new model
Many organizations have been keen on implementing information systems (IS) in their operations, leading to a reorganization of their business processes. The ability to have a successful management information system (MIS) usually depends on the company’s level of information technology (IT). When the level of IT is high, it is easier to have a more successful MIS. In the present time, the level of IT usage is greatly increasing, and more organizations are concerned about implementing MIS [34]. However, an organization must be conscious of the number of issues associated with the risks of implementation of MIS [45]. It means that the company must be ready to face the challenges associated with MIS implementation, either on a small scale or large scale.
Various risks occur during the implementation of MIS, which are evident in every stage of the process. If the identified issues are not addressed at the first stage, their impacts affect the implementation of the subsequent processes [34]. Therefore, it is always important to ensure that risks are addressed as soon as they are identified. Otherwise, their impact may be disastrous to the entire process. As a result of this, there is always the need for an organization to have a satiable model to guide it in its implementation of MIS.
Drawing on the previous chapter, this study will use a new model with is the frame of the reference model. The model is and is being used by organizations in the implementation of MIS. Across the world, the usage of this model has greatly increased due to its ability to address prevailing risks and challenges related to MIS implementation [36]. The model breaks down implementation challenges by categorizing them into five major risks: leadership risks, environment risks, personal risks, management process risks, and technical systems risks [37].
