In the Parker readings, our chapters relate to learning how to love and to laugh. Quite honestly, as educators, we must learn to do both frequently and with much passion and gusto. By learning to love our students, our profession, our leaders, and all of those with whom we work, we show the love of Christ which may be the only demonstration of love that others witness in a day. We have a sacred trust as educators. As much as we must learn to love, we also should learn to laugh and to find joy in the journey. Some of the best times and memories in education and the classroom should be when students and teachers take opportunities to laugh and enjoy the process of learning. There is nothing much more satisfying and joyful than to hear the belly laughs of a room full of captive little bodies! Let us remember that “laughter doeth good as a medicine” (Proverbs 17:22).

Also this week, you have also been reading about standards for curriculum. As Christians, we are examples to the world and God holds us accountable. Matthew 12:36 declares, But I tell you that men will have to give an account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. Colossians 3:17 states, Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. We are accountable to Christ, and man-made institutions are also held accountable. Standards in education help to ensure that we are more accountable as educators.

With the reading for this week in mind, discuss the following items in your paper

Reflect on how you can become more intentional about loving and laughing in the elementary classroom. We can even plan instruction around moments of planned humor and fun!
How can you organize content that is engaging and fun? How can you show you care by implementing meaningful applications of knowledge? As the adage goes, “they dont care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”
Provide a summary that gives an overview comparing and contrasting your state’s standards and another state’s standards or the national/Common Core standards.
