NFL Rookie Quarterback Performance and Draft Position
We want to look at the relationship between draft position and quarterback performance. The data set: [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nslf_hoDvWNA2aCFcBl56UigCU372_eNx-kOJSSPnxI/edit?usp=sharing] was compiled using the nflreadr package in R. It should include all quarterbacks drafted since 2006 that played in their rookie year. (There are probably some missing. I know Jalen Hurts is missing, but I’m not sure why. )
Calculate a correlation coeffcient between overall draft position (pick) and ESPN QBR in first season (qbr_total). Create a confidence interval using 1−r2n−2‾‾‾‾√ for the standard error where r2 is the correlation coefficient.
Repeat the previous porblem including only quartebacks that played enough for their stats to count among league leaders. (qualified=TRUE).
Create a scatter plot that shows the relationship between draft position and rookie qbr using only qualified players.
What do your results indicate regarding the relationship between draft position and quarterback performance.
In addition to player ability/expectations, there are several more reasons that quarterbacks performance may be correlated with draft position. Give an example and discuss the direction of the correlation.

We want to know if QB performance (particularly young quarterbacks) is largely determined by the quality of team for which they play. In 2020 three QBs were drafted in the top ten: Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Joe Burrow. Each of those is included in the data set, as well as Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes who are both quarterbacks for good all-around teams. The variables are named according to this dictionary and this dictionary.
Create a table that shows for each player their season total QBR average number of drops, times hurried, times blitzed, times pressured, and bad throws.
Create a table that shows confidence intervals for each player on times pressured.
Discuss the results in questions 6 and 7. Were the young quarterbacks put in worse situations? Explain.
Do something interesting with the data.
What other variables could give us some insight into rookie quarterback performance? Explain.
