As future leaders and informed citizens, it is important for you to know how to use your voice to advocate for issues that improve the lives of those around you. For this assignment, you are going to write a letter to someone in a position of authority to persuade them to change their position on this social justice issue and persuade them on why inclusion in education is important. This assignment will challenge you to apply your knowledge of inclusion and diversity to a real-world problem. It will also give you practice crafting a logical argument and using sources to support your claims. Pick a country outside of the US to focus on where inclusion is lacking. Provide evidence on why this is currently an issue, and factors that contribute to this. Include evidence on the benefits of inclusion in education in the USA.

A. Pick any country outside of the USA. Pick a real life person in a position of authority to write to.
B. Include an explanation of the issue (i.e., segregation of individuals with disabilities) in your own words, backed up with evidence to support your claims that this is an issue. Include evidence that there is a lack of inclusion in your chosen country. Explain why a lack of inclusion is harmful (i.e., what are the consequences?), backed up with evidence to support your claims (100 pts).
C. Explain what can be done by this specific person to implement change, and what that change would be. Recommended changes to be backed up with evidence to support your claims (40 pts).
D. Include research to support the benefits of inclusion in education in the USA (50 pts).
E. Use a minimum of 10 sources to support your claims. Acceptable sources include reputable, factual online sources (Discovery, Scientific American, New York Times, etc.) as well as journal articles and books. Don’t just state the evidence – make sure to explain why your evidence supports your position. Quotes may be used sparingly (with quotation marks) and should NOT make up your entire argument. Although this is a letter, please include citations in text. Keep the writing professional, but it’s perfectly fine to write in first person. Format the letter appropriately. Proof read for spelling and grammar errors. Your final paper will be a minimum of 4 pages in length, not including references (size 12 font, 1.5 line spacing). Include references listed at the end of the letter (APA format) (10 pts).
