Depressive Mood Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis

DescriptionStudents will showcase knowledge of research advancements in clinical mental health counseling and how research evidence informs counseling practice. The problem sheets throughout the class will help you in developing a research proposal. This proposal will be a synthesis. Its purpose is to provide a practical learning experience for you to explore key elements in research design and planning, and gathering data. Because of time constraints, you will not gather actual data, but you will explore the research process through the development of a research proposal. Only a proposal for an empirical research study (an investigation with formal research question and hypothesis, measurable variables) will be accepted – in other words, your study has to answer a question. In order to create a research proposal related to the field of counseling, over the course of the quarter you will: a. select a research topic b. perform an annotated literature review c. develop your research question and hypothesis (research question determines your methodology and helps to identify your constructs and how you’ll operationalize your variables) d. consider the rationale for your study e. select a research design, and f. develop a detailed methodology (No mixed methods) Then, after completing this process above you will create an 8-10 page research proposal report using APA (7th ed) style (Professional format rather than student paper including: I. Title papge II. 1)Study Introduction Section Introduction/background to the problem/question being discussed in your paper. What information is out there about this topic? What is the gap in the literature? How does previous work logically lead to your research questions/hypotheses? 2) Framework of the current study. What is the purpose of your study? What is the rationale for why your study useful, important, or interesting? 3) Statement of research question and hypotheses IV. Study Methods Section 1) Participants 2) Instruments 3) Materials 4) Procedure 5) Research Design 6) Data Analysis Plan V. Discussion. Discusses how the results and possible outcomes will answer the research question and is connected to the literature and questions that you have raised. Fully identifies flaws or gaps in existing knowledge. Specifically outlines areas for future study. VI. References
